Steps on how to join the club

You can contact the club secretary with any questions or to have the induction form emailed to you. Or simply go on and book your induction. (details below).

  1. complete the induction form and send with payment (Word or pdf versions)
  2. attend induction
  3. decide to join and on completion of form and remitance you become a member, start paddling. The cost of the inducion less a pool session cost will be refunded when joining the club.

Induction - introduction to the club before joining

The aim is to introduce potential new members to the Club.
Specifically to learn about safety, how to use the Club and equipment to its best and to try your hand at paddling - to see if this is the sport for you.

If you are new to the sport of canoeing, or have limited experience, you will be required to attend an instructed beginner's course before joining the Club. This course aims to It tells you the way the club works etc as well as ensure that you are able to perform the basic canoeing strokes, capsize and rescue skills, while being responsible for your own safety on the water. This enables you can hit the ground running when you join.

To attend an induction please complete this form (Word or pdf versions). Coplete this form and incllude payment by cheque and send to address on the form. 

Once you have attended an induction you may join the club. We look forward to welcoming you.

Induction Session Format

The induction consists of two sessions:

  • the pool session of 2 hours
  • the familiarisation at Bewl Water Reseroir

First an indoor swimming pool session with kayaks/canoes where you will be able to observe Club members practising a variety of skills. You have the opportunity to try out basic strokes, capsize and recovery skills under the guidance of a qualified coach.

Followed by a familiarisation at Bewl Water Reservoir which will comprise of an introduction to the equipment available for use, facilities accessible to Club members and a paddle (weather permitting) at Bewl in either Kayaks or Canoes. You may like to bring a picnic to enjoy at Bewl Water or use the canteen at the club house which provides a range of food and beverages at reasonable cost most days.

What to bring: Please bring normal swimming kit for the pool session. For the paddle at Bewl what ever the weather forcast bring a windproof/waterproof top, suncream, warm clothes and shoes you don't mind getting wet; as well and towle etc. for a shower afterwarms and some very worm clothes. And a packed lunch. If the water temperature is cold/cool (ie below 15 degrees, see weather station to find out the water temperature) please bring along a wetsuit or drysuit if you have one.

The inductions planned for this year will appear on the club calendar.

Inductions are usually held in March, April, May, June, July.

This month we are starting our junior paddling for this year. This takes place on a Wednesday from 5pm – 6:15pm and we provide all boats, buoyancy aids and paddles. More on Junior Paddling. Please conact us if you are inteseted in junior paddling, other paddling or have any questions.

This is included in your membership if you are a member. Please sign up ASAP with our secretary If you are not a member this is fine to simply contact our secretary to register for a place.
