Induction

The aim is to introduce potential new members to the Club.
Specifically to learn about safety, how to use the Club and equipment to its best and to try your hand at paddling - to see if this is the sport for you.

If you are new to the sport of canoeing, or have limited experience, you will be required to attend an instructed beginner's course before joining the Club. This course aims to ensure that you are able to perform the basic canoeing strokes, capsize and rescue skills, while being responsible for your own safety on the water.

Potential new members with previous canoeing experience may on production of valid BCU certificates (or recognised national equivalent) be required to demonstrate their ability to the Coach and Committee's satisfaction.

Induction Format

The induction consists of two sessions:

First an indoor swimming pool session where you will be able to observe Club members practising a variety of skills.

Our Coaches will then take you through the basic canoeing strokes, capsize and recovery skills on the water.

Followed by a familiarisation at Bewl which will comprise of an introduction to the equipment available for use,

facilities accessible to Club members and a paddle at Bewl in either Kayaks or Canoes.
