Safety Rules

1. All canoeists must have valid third party insurance cover to participate in water activities. This cover can be

obtained by becoming a member of the British Canoe Union or by being a paid up member of Bewl Canoe Club.

 

2. All boats must have adequate buoyancy to support the canoe and the canoeists in the event of capsize.

 

3. Buoyancy aids are to be worn at all times during paddling activities.

 

4. Members over the age of 16 may canoe in a group of not less than three; provided the members of

that group have proved they hold a BCU 2* award and FRST/CST and are deemed proficient by the Club

appointedcoaches.

 

5. No child under the age of 16 years will be allowed to canoe without a supervising adult (who must be in

posessionof BCU 2* award plus FRST/CST as for Rule No.4).

 

6. Members under the age of 16 years must canoe in a group of not less than three; each person must hold BCU2*

award and canoe not more than 500 yards from the shore and in sight of the Club House.

 

7. All person going onto the water outside club sessions must sign outand in on their return using the Signing Out

Register form.(Kept opposite the changing rooms)

 

8.Canoeing will take place when the air temperature is 10 degrees C or below only if a wet or dry suit is worn

(there is a weather monitor with a display of water temperature in the foyer of the Clubhouse).

 

9. Canoeing will only be allowed in poor visibility at the discretion of the Duty Manager.

 

10. Canoeists are required to carry a mobile phone which has stored the number of the Sailing Club (01892 890930)

and Bewl Rangers (01892 890486) to be used in an emergency (note this will transfer into the Rangers radio

system if unanswered after 10 rings).

 

11.Water activities take place at the discretion otthe Duty Manager who has overall responsibility for safety at the

Site. All Members & guests are to ensure they follow the instructions of the Duty Manager.
