Bewl Canoe Club

Safety Rules

 

1.     All canoeists must have valid third party insurance cover. This cover can be obtained by becoming a member of the British Canoe Union or by being a paid up member of the Bewl Canoe Club.
2.     All boats must have adequate buoyancy to support the canoe and the canoeists in the event of capsize.
3.     Buoyancy aids are to be worn at all times
4.     Members over the age of 16 may canoe in a group of not less than three or more than six provided the members of that group have proved they hold 2* and CST and are deemed proficient by the club appointed instructors
5.     No child under the age of 16 years will be allowed to canoe without adult supervision (i.e. 3* award or above; 2* award plus CST  as for No4).
6.     Members under the age of  16 years must canoe in a group of not less than three and no more than six; each person must hold the 2* award or above and canoe not more than 500 yards from the shore and in sight of the Club House.
7.     Any person or group going onto the water outside club sessions must book in and out on the form provided.
8.     No canoeing will take place at 10 degrees C or below without a wet or dry suit (there is a weather monitor with a display of water temperature in the foyer of the Clubhouse).
9.     Canoeing will only be allowed in poor visibility at the discretion of the Water Duty Manager.
11.   Canoeists are required to carry a mobile ‘phone which has the number of the Rangers 01892 890486 to be used in extreme emergency; this will cut in to the Rangers radio system if unanswered after 10 rings
12.   The Water Duty Manager has the final word with regard to canoeing in poor weather and when wind speeds exceed force 5.
